Abstract

This investigation provides prehistoric and historical perspectives on the current erosion problem in extensive gully systems developed on sodic soils near St. Michael's Mission, central Zimbabwe. Specifically, the study focuses : 1) on the colluvial sediments exposed in the gully particularly with a view to determining the timing and nature of prehistoric gullying, 2) the main factors affecting gully growth since the 1940s, and 3) small-scale influences on present day headcut recession
