Abstract

Comparison of the data from Murray Springs Clovis site with evidence from other stratified Paleo-Indian sites and from pluvial lake basins in the Western United States provides evidence that a significant but brief paleoclimatic event occurred in western North America at the time of megafaunal extinction. If these suggested correlations are correct, the geochronology of the Arizona Clovis sites provides the most tightly dated stratigraphic record for a terminal Pleistocene drought and for extinction
