Abstract

With a magnitude of 7 on the Richter scale, the Spitak earthquake resulted in more than 25 000 deaths. The main factors that determined the spatial pattern of earthquake damage were the distance from its epicenter, location in relation to active construction, settlement pattern and economic activity. Reconstruction activities have appropriated much former agricultural land as sites for dumping rubble, construction and other purposes. - (DWG)
