Mobilisation and employment of female labour in Malaysia

Abstract

The paper examines the changing pattern of women's work in rural Malaysia. It shows that the selective mobilisation of labour creates an ephemeral urban work force militating against internal rural development. There is a need to view female adaptation to modernisation as a dynamic involving considerable exchange, among regional labour markets, economic niches and social statuses
