Abstract

In this study, the thermic canal of the satellite image Landsat TM is used in the remote sensing of grasslands in relation with a lack of water in the soil. The image analysed is dated 10th September 1985. The region studied is the reallocated perimeter of Focant in the southern part of Famenne, Belgium. The distinction between meadows undergoing differentiated hydric stress is made on the basis of an unsupervised classification in the termic canal| those subjected to hydric stress are reclassed as " hot areas ", with high thermic values, whereas unstressed meadows are reclassed as " cold areas ", with low thermic values. This discrimination of zones is more noticeable when the entities studied are extensive areas. - (Authors)
