Abstract

Within a 1 ha field in the polder area, 247 observations of the depth of the lithologic discontinuity between loamy material (I) and deeper sandy loam material (II) were made, and 50 soils texture determinations of both materials were analysed using geostatistics. The variability was found to be the largest for the sand and silt contents, but occurred at shorter distances for the clay content. In order to apply puntual-kriging optimally, observations are required at least every 14,5 m for the depth data, every 14 m for the texture of material I and every 7,5 m for the texture of material II. A need for additional observations of the soil texture, or cokriging with a second variable, was recognized. - (Authors)
