Abstract

Land scarcity on the high plateau (Altiplano) led Aymara Indians beginning in the 1930s to colonize the high selva zone of the Tampobata Valley. Aymara families coordinate coffee cultivation in that valley with the production of subsistence crops in highland communities by a system of pendular migration between their two domains with the seasons. Most interviews were conducted in the District of Moho (Department of Puno), Peru. - (DWG)
