Abstract

The study is about activities in the twilight area between leisure and labour, hidden from official observation and carried for the purpose of creating a positive income effect. The importance of the informal economy in the modern western society in the production of welfare and the provision of social goods and services is sketched. Access of people to the informal economy is unequally distributed depending on skills, means and contacts. One of the conclusions therefore is that the informal economy leads to the growth of social inequality. - (AGD)
