Abstract

In the northeastern state of Bahia, piassava palm - long been used for its fiber - occurs in dense stands. The AA. found in their experiments that subterranean propagules that survived range burning benefitted from the abundant soil nutrients, sunlight and space available after fires and that this palm species was soon able to dominate the vegetation. - (DWG)
