Abstract

Displacements were monitored at 132 points using plastic inclinometer tubes, wooden dowel pillars and painted stones. Most of the activity was confined to the upper 30 cm of soil, where the rate of surface movement ranged from zero to 1.1 cm/year. The average rate of surface movement was 0.7 cm/year, with an approximate volumetric transport of 10.9 cm3/cm/year downslope. Frost heave bedstead measurements described seasonal heave magnitudes ranging from 3.4 to 4.5 cm/year which, when compared to the movement data, emphasized the large contribution made by frost creep
