Abstract

Analytical procedures are presented whereby data from multiple flumes, installed to sample overland through a cross-section, can be processed to yield total discharge and sediment load for the section. Sample results from two 18-m cross-sections on a semiarid hillslope show that discharge and sediment load do not increase linearly downslope, as hitherto assumed. These findings are explained in terms of spatial variations in infiltration and raindrop detachment rates
