Abstract

The predictions from four hypotheses of the origin of Mima type earth mounds were tested by sampling the small rock composition and analyzing moundfield geometry at four locations in the Pacific States. The results are consistent with the fossorial rodent hypothesis of Mima mound origin, and inconsistent with the other hypotheses (wind or water erosion, wind deposition, periglacial freeze thaw dynamics)
