Abstract

The terrace, lying between 8 and 40 m above sea level, was shaped up by Middle Pleistocene downfaulting and warping along several faults behind the ancient shoreline. Intermittent subsidence relative to the higher Inland Plateau coupled with abundant sediment supply from the latter and probably a relative rise of sea level resulted in a fluviatile fining-up cyclic sedimentation followed by a brief marine incursion
