Abstract

The Common Toad, Bufo bufo makes up about 29 per cent (fresh weight) of the diet of the European Badger Meles meles in the Forêt de Chambord, France. The feeding technique of the Badger is infered from the observation of discorded prey remains: commun toads are eaten from below and the dorsal skin and parotoid glands are always left untouched. The protective role of the toad's venom is discussed.
