Abstract

Sea level changes at eleven sites in the southwest Pacific region have been examined with the following results: the ICE-1 model of Peltier and Andrews (1976) for Arctic deglaciation is inadequate to explain all sea-levels| the effective mantle viscosity is in the range 10-10 P although the sea level results for the locations studied are not strongly dependant on viscosity| vertical motion of tectonic origin can be separated from the hydro-isostatic sea-level fluctuations if these motions exceed about 0,5 mm/yr.
