Abstract

A similar stratigraphy of Upper Pleistocene deposits is found all around the Western Mediterranean coast. During the last interglacial period three main transgressive oscillations left beach deposits which are now above present sea-level. Eutyrrhenian deposits are better developed than those of the older Tyrrhenian and those of the Neotyrrhenian. The Würmian period is characterized by a succession of red silt layers and shelly eolianites which points to a repetitive sequence of climatic modifications and eustatic variations.
