Abstract

The data cover two aspects of Soviet Trade: the composition of the goods imported and exported, and the Trading partners. The value of its imports in a given period is only a few percent of the total value of its production of goods and services, and only China, India and the United States have comparably low import coefficients. Furthermore, the Soviet Union accounts for only 3-4 percent of the imports and exports in world trade as a whole. The comparatively independent position of its economy is strengthened by the presence of a share of most types of natural resources well in excess of its share of world population, which was 5.8 percent in 1984.
