Abstract

Field observations on numerous small permanent plots in a Dutch chalk grassland showed, that germination percentage and bryophyte cover are strongly correlated in a negative sense for Carlina vulgaris and Euphrasia stricta, but not or weakly correlated in case of Gentianella germanica, Linum catharticum, and Scabiosa columbaria. Survival of seedlings and bryophyte cover are positively correlated for Carlina and Linum but not correlated for the other species.
