Indigenous work groups in Nigerian savannah agriculture: a strategy against labour shortages

Authors(s) and Affiliation(s)

Abstract

Studies in various parts of the Nigerian savannah have shown that farmers in a vast area in this region already respond to peak labour demanding periods by reducing the amount of time spent on non-agricultural activities. The potential in solving farm labour problems therefore seems to lie in a more efficient utilization of the amount of labour already allocated to agriculture. Indigenous work group systems should be considered as one potential in this context. (L'A.).
