Abstract

Of particular importance is the effect on soil and water of activities involving alterations and conversions of forests for cultivation, grazing, logging or other purposes. This book synthesizes current knowledge about the effects of twelve different human activities on various water and soil phenomena, including groundwater, spring, and well levels, streamflow quantity timing and distribution| on-site erosion| sediment in streams| and nutrient out flow. Each chapter includes a short section suggesting appropriate management and policy guidelines to minimize adverse effects and enhance benefits.
