Abstract

Below 38 of latitude the Southern Chilean Andes were extensively glaciated during the Pleistocene. This region was repeatedly invaded by large piedmont ice lobes gradually increasing in importance to the South. This paper studies the till-outwash relationships during the last glaciation (Llanquihue). The main outwashes are always associated with glacial advances. The differential response of glacial advances and outwash fan constructions is interpreted in terms of clastic production and fluvial dynamics.
