Abstract

In Japan there are many "Utsuchi reijô" (initiative pilgrimage courses) patterned after Shikoku-hachijû-hakkasho-reijô (Shikoku's 88 pilgrimage sites), and they are called "Shin-Shikoku" (new Shikoku) pilgrimage courses. The "Honshikoku" (Shikoku pilgrimage course) model spreads to various parts of the country and was transformed under local conditions. Shôdoshima's 88 pilgrimages sites ou Shôdoshima Island in Kagawa Prefecture is compared with "Honshikoku". (SGA).
