Abstract

Successive transport epochs in Johannesburg are described with their contribution to the development of the city's morphology. It is shown that political interest and capitalist accumulation have played an important role in allocating the benefits of transport to different ethnic and socio-economic groups in the city and that discrimination is this regard is a long-standing phenomenon.
