Abstract

The maritime geography of the Cayman Islands pre-determined the seawand perspective of the people. originally the islands were used as provisioning way stations. After settlement, traditional pursuits of turtling and wrecking became an important part of the embryonic culture. The article places emphasis on archaeological and place name evidence from the 18th and 19th centuries in influencing contemporary social patterns. (MPM).
