Abstract

"Geographical photography" has been taken upon a geographer's own judgement. Material for this analysis came from geographical monographs and from Chirigaku Hyôron (Geographical Review of Japan). The development of geographical photography in Japan is divided in four stages. Landscape geography became common during the 1930's in Japan. This trend promoted the utilization of photography. Nowadays photography became less and less utilized. Although geographers take a lot of photographs by themselves, their interest in photography seems to be concentrated on the interpretation and utilization of air photographs and satellite imagery.
