Erosion rates and their relations to vegetation from the viewpoint of world-wide distribution

Authors(s) and Affiliation(s)

A regression curve indicating the general relationship between precipitation and denudation rate is obtained from the totalized data through various climatic regions. The curve has a peak between 350 and 400 mm of mean annual precipitation, a trough between 500 and 600 mm, and a trend increasing steadily in the range greater that 600 mm. This characteristic of the curve is interpreted by taking account of retardation rate of erosion induced by vegetation which is also affected by climate (the biomass abruptly increases in the range from 400 mm to 600 mm of mean annual precipitation where the vegetation type changes from grassland to forest. (CM).
