Abstract

The Thomas quarries near Casablanca (Morocco) yielded the remains of several fossil hominids, ascribed to Homo erectus, associated with a stone industry and a relatively rich fauna, the most diversified of the whole Moroccan Pléistocene. A detailed study of the fauna is given. The fauna seems to indicate the occurrence of two different environments near the sites: an open savannah and a more broken, rocky, and perhaps more wooded, area near the shore.
