Abstract

Sequential filing of land entries was a common practice on the American frontier. Reasons for migration westward varied from person to person. The sequential land entries of a Swiss immigrant in Nebraska during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries are examined in terms of his motives for moving from site to site and of the physical characteristics of each site.
