A first attempt is made to explain the high values of CO concentrations found by several authors in gas inclusions of polar ice. In the light of the CO absorption model proposed here we demonstrate the relative importance of variations in temperature and in partial pressure. If the present model holds it seems possible to find variations of some percents in partial pressure of CO during the past for ice sheets until 1000m of depth.
