Abstract

A new examination of the frequency curves of aurorae and of cometary discoveries since AD 0 led us to the conclusion that during 12 of the 16 centuries (75%) the trends of solar activity and zonal circulation on the Earth (30-55N) were of the same sign. Both curves display nearly 400years fluctuations which might place us in a similar climatic situation which our ancestors had to suffer from during the 17th century at the beginning and during the so-called "little ice age".
