Abstract

Government in Singapore has played an active role not only in promoting industrialization in general but also through incentives aimed at manipulating the economic environment to attract investors in increasingly high technology export oriented production. This study examines variations in the attitudes of plant managers towards the economic environment in which they operate. Two industries are examined in detail: the plastics and electronics manufacturers. The findings suggest that managerial attitudes and, therefore, managerial decision-making can be significantly modified by government policies.
