Abstract

In the high-mountain area of the Tatra, above the upper limit of forest the slopes of medium angle (20-40) have been examined. Holocene deposits have remained on the slopes. In the deposits climatic optimum phase has clearly marked as soil-weathering profiles with thick humus horizon and marks of podsolization process. Biological aggradation has been stronger than morphological degradation. Gelifluction turf terraces have originated after the climatic optimum. They have transformated into stone terraces as wind and a human being have destroyed vegetation. The greatest erosional devastation in the mountains is connected with human activity (uncontroled tourist traffic, sheep grazing). Throughout a comparatively short time (20 years), after the cause of slope degradation had been removed, a very quick biological regeneration of slopes has become. (d'après l'A.).
