Abstract

Missourian (Upper Pennsylvanian) sediments in the subsurface of northwestern Kansas have been studied extensively using information integrated from core, sample cuttings, and well-log data. The study area lies on the upper, landward margin of a broad, epeiric shelf where Missourian sediments were deposited during a period of major transgression. Differences in gammaray and neutron response exist in these facies due to variations in the abundance of the clay, carbonate, quartz silt organic fractions, types of clay minerale and pore fluid volume.
