Abstract

A minority group of private shareholders within Marine-Wendel and the creditors'takeover of the Sacilor-Sollac firm| the retreat of the iron and steel industry into two sectors, both integrated and specialised, and centered around the only oxygen steelwork, at Gandrange (Sacilor) and at Sérémange (Sollac)| the following of heavy investment despite the difficulties, investment which has been of greatest benefit to Sollac in the most recent period| a fallback in the delivery of long products manufactured by Sacilor| and mass redundancy. Such are the main results of a complicated and worrying evolution.
