Shelf sea fronts'adjustements revealed by satellite IR imagery
IR imagery from NOAA5 has been used to study the movement of shelf sea fronts. After the elimination of tidal advection, the fronts show remarkable consistency of position and do not adjust to the strong semi-monthly variation in tidal stirring which indicates the operation of a feedback process in vertical mixing.
