Abstract

Working in a deductive framework the AA. criticize the demand theory extant in standard public choice theory. This argues that individual households seek to adjust their preferences to local public provision of either a salutary or obnoxious character by relocating. This, however, ignores the fact that these households will also be concerned with the effects of salutary and obnoxious facilities on the pecuniary terms on which they can leave the community. Households, therefore, become concerned with the property value implications of such land uses. (K. R. Cox).
