Abstract

The assessment of regional economic impacts of alternative environmental policies can be carried out through the use of regional input-output tables. A method of deriving a regional table from a national table, at small computational expense, is tested. The method of location quotients, utilizing the concept of regional shares of national output, is discussed, along with other regionalizing methods. Location quotients are the used to adjust the 1967 United States national input-output table to estimate the table of Washington state at a fine sectoral detail. Results indicate that the method examined offers encouraging evidence that the simple technique in fact can be useful as an expeditious method of environmental policy evaluation.
