Abstract

An examination of 4.000 files relating to handicapped workers in the Paris Region shows that industrial injuries ought to be given very special attention, as their prevention is often possible. These workers (one-third of whom are foreigners from North Africa, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Turkey and Yugoslavia) are able to benefit from advantages granted following some decisions made by Advisory Committees on the Disabled. A special study has been made of the demographic characteristics of these workers, their geographical distribution and of the various types of handicap to which they are subject. These characteristics, when compared with those of the working population of Paris as a whole, suggest that there exists a difference in socio-economic conditions between the handicapped workers and the general population, which may partly account for their circumstances.
