Abstract

The summarizing of present knowledge of the evolution of Vltava terraces shows that the main causes of their origin were climatic oscillation, particularly the glacial periods and a moderate isostatic rise of the whole area, which supparted the formation of a deeply cut valley. The rocks resistant to weathering formed a favourable environment, so that the fully developed system records the history of the whole Pleistocene for Central Europe. (MS).
