The study has two essential aims: 1. In a more analytical approach the causes and determinants of structural change of agriculture are to be analysed. This will be done by means of correlation and regression analysis. 2. In a second and more synthetical approach regional types of agricultural development are to be worked out, using the methods of factor analysis and grouping analysis.-In order to describe and explain the structural change of agriculture the following variables are chosen as indicators| the percentage decrease of the number 1. of holdings between 1950 and 1971| 2. of persons occupied in the agricultural sector between 1950 and 1970| 3. of cattle-rearing farms between 1949 and 1971. There are high correlations between the factors and the intensity of agricultural change. This change can be interpreted as a diffusion process originating from urban settlements.-The main results of the regionalization are: 1.a high degree of contiguity between the communities that belong to the same group, and 2. a striking similarity of the results of the two alternative grouping procedures. The different regional types of the development of the social and economic agricultural structures are mainly determined by specific combinations and interrelations of the following two basic dimensions: 1. the level of urbanization and development of the non-agricultural sector of economy| 2. the socio-economic structure of agriculture in 1950. The resulting types can also serve as a basis for detailed programs of agricultural policy suited to the needs of the regions in question. (HSC).
