Abstract

A lithological and palynological investigation has been made of the Late Glacial and early Holocene filling of a pingo remnant in Drente (The Netherlands). It was found that the deposition of aeiolian sands, although of varying nature, was uninterrupted from the beginning of the Late Glacial until the end of the Boreal. From the pollen records a vegetational development was reconstructed and its dependance on temperatures, moisture conditions, and soil development is discussed. It was concluded that the mean July temperatures were at least 10C possibly 13C in the Bolling, probably 12 13C in the Earlier Dryas, around 14C at the beginning of the Allerod, and at least 12C in the Late Dryas time.
