Abstract

This paper contains theoretical considerations concerning the causes and location of the formation of glaciotectonic deformations by inland ice in the substratum. These considerations are based on a theory of rock and soil mechanics as well as on the results of investigations into various types of glaciotectonic structures. Glaciotectonic deformations are a result of the operation of the same stress system that causes the phenomenon of glacioisostasy. Five generations of glaciotectonic structures are distinguished and a model of their formation is presented. (L'A.).
