Abstract

After a recall of the old and new thesis about the question of the direction and arrangement of sandy reliefs in the Basin of Paris, the authors assume an hypothesis based on the lineal disposition of sandy stripes cut by wind into the mass of Stampian sand and the oligo-miocene tectonic breaking off the Aquitanian surface. After a comparison between Stampian alignments and Saharian and Australian ergs with present periodic structures, they place rubefaction and sandstone formation before the Aquitanian sedimentation. Therefore the convergence of the orientation of two dynamics displaced in the time: eolian dynamics and tectonic movements, would explain the present disposition of sandy reliefs of the Basin of Paris.
