Abstract

THE A. HAS MEASURED THE HOURLY TEMPERATURE GRADIENTS BETWEEN THE SURFACE AND 300 FT AT FOUR LEVELS, OVER A ONE-YEAR PERIOD AT QUEBEC CITY. THESE OBSERVATIONS HAVE HEEN GROUPED INTO 9 CLASSES AND THE DAILY FLUCTUATIONS HAVE BEEN ANALYSED BY CLASS. AS A RESULT, 7 TYPES OF DAILY SOUNDINGS ARE DETERMINED. THESE TYPES OF SOUNDING ARE COMPARED WITH THE SYNOPTIC SITUATIONS. FINALLY, THE A. STUDIES THE MEAN WEATHER CONDITIONS FOR EACH TYPE OF SOUNDING BY CALCULATING THE CONDITIONAL PROBABILITIES, UNDER WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES IT IS POSSIBLE TO DEDUCE A TYPE OF SOUNDING, GIVEN SUNSHINE AND HUMIDITY DATA, AND THE DAILY RANGE OF TEMPERATURE.
