Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to examine the effects of increasing scales of roughness on local and average velocity profiles, paying particular attention to the location, extent, and characteristics of the different flow regions. Emphasis will also be placed on the very near-bed region, the shear stress estimated from average profiles, the turbulence intensity profiles, and the implications of the findings to bed load transport and flow resistance prediction equations
