Abstract

The AA. aim to clarify the landscape history of the region by assessing the intensity of soil development and therefore the relative age of paleosols formed in these glacial and associated glaciofluvial deposits. Interpretation is complicated by the periodic deposition of volcanic tephra on top of the paleosols and the occurrence of permafrost during the Quaternary. Both may strongly influence soil formation, especially the intensity of weathering
