Abstract

A. notes how self-guided walking tours using a guidebook of the city can forge a real link between geography students and the local community. He reviews his guidebook of Oakland, California, used at in a large lecture class in the history of the American cultural landscape. Figures are from guidebook and help to illustrate how specific instances on Oakland represent broader generic landscape elements found throughout the country. - (SLD)
