Abstract

Article concerns the Bootheel of New Mexico, an area the size of Delaware and contained in Hidalgo County. The focus is on local, humorous modifications of road standard government signs on a secondary road in the Bootheel that leads to nowhere. These modifications were created by a comboy, J. D. Hughey. There is a discussion of Bootheel history and lore and of cowboy humor in general. - (SLD)
