Abstract

A discussion of how World Neighbors, a nongovernmental organization headquartered in the USA, has helped small farmers in the Socorro district of central Honduras carry out sustainable and profitable agriculture. The success comes from using local citizens to teach local village leaders sustainable farming/land management techniques. The local leaders then teach other villagers. Key parts of program are using a leguminous cover crop, velvet beans, to improve soil fertility, composting, contour ditches, and terracing. - (SLD)
