Potential annual-sown legumes for low-input systems in the East African highlands of southwestern Uganda

published at : Special issue : Part II

Abstract

A photothermal model is used to study the suitability of annual legume cover crops in hillside farming in southwestern Uganda. Elevations ranged from 1600 to 2500 m. Not surprisingly, temperate species are found to more suitable than tropical species, which probably would not reach pod maturity in either of the two growing seasons in this area of bi-modal rainfall distribution. A. believe that the model can be used for scaling-up agronomic research trials in specific locations. - (SLD)
